Paris’ 9th Arrondissement

Shoppers’ paradise in the 9th arrondissement - Boulevard Haussman boasts two of Paris’ largest department stores side by side. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps are Parisian institutions, stuffed full with the latest french Fashions. They’re also tourist attractions in their own right - the extravagant domed hall at the heart of the Galeries is worth a visit whether or not you live to shop.

Just across from the two stores, in the south east corner of the district and commanding grand views down to the Louvre, stands the Opera Garnier, Paris’ world famous opera house. Swanky bars line the square outside, a fine place to sit and watch the city’s best-dressed file into the opera’s statue-covered entrance.

The ninth arrondissement is a major business district, thin on residential community but thick with shops and offices. As the quarter rises north it loses some of its glitzy quality, eventually halting at the Boulevard Pigalle - home to the Moulin Rouge, but also accommodating several hundred strip clubs and sex shops, and a less than salubrious location.
